Saint Louis University’s Parks College Tribute Timeline

It was truly an honor for Craftsmen Industries to be a part of SLU’s Parks College 80th Anniversary Celebration. Parks College, formerly located in Cahokia, IL, relocated to Saint Louis University’s campus in 1997. As a token of appreciation, Dr. Manoj Patankar, Dean and Alumni of Park’s College, had an idea to commemorate the accomplishments of the school and the success of school leaders. Sandbox Creative’s (located in St. Louis, MO) vision of the project and direction on the design electrified the hallways of McDonnell Douglas Hall.

Working directly with Sandbox Creative, Craftsmen Industries printed, produced and installed the project in two phases with a critical deadline of Saint Louis University’s Homecoming weekend. The first phase was painting the hallway red and installing the timeline, which stretched over 280 feet along the hallway. The timeline was made of one-inch acrylic with brushed aluminum finish, representing an industrial look and feel.

The second phase of the project was installing the shapes and print
portion of the project. The shapes, which highlighted key Alumni of Parks College, articles and historic pictures, projected a three-dimensional effect with the use of stand-offs, varying in lengths of one to two inches. The printing was completed on two different types of composite material- white and brushed aluminum. The black and white prints were uniquely reproduced, using Alupanel material, which had a realistic, metallic finish.

The timeline begins at the inception of Parks College in 1927 until present day, allowing Alumni an opportunity to revisit places throughout Parks Colleges’ history that no longer exist. Expansion plans are in the future, but for now, SLU’s Parks College students, staff and Alumni are pleased with the timeline. “This is exactly what we wanted, but we got more than we expected,” said Susan Bloomfield, Director of Development at SLU’s Parks College. At the unveiling on Homecoming Weekend in September 2007, a wife of an Alumnus compared the timeline to the exhibits at the Smithsonian, which is truly an extraordinary project for Craftsmen Industries.
